Using Your Hemi Walker
Use your hemi walker the way you would a cane, with the hemi walker placed on your strong side, or opposite the injured side.
Begin by moving the hemi walker forward, ensuring all four legs are in contact with the floor. Holding the top hand grip securely, move your injured leg forward, followed by your strong leg. End with your hemi walker and both feet in a line.
Continue in this manner, taking short, smooth steps to ensure balance.
As your balance and stability improve, you may be able to walk with a two-step sequence, where the hemi walker and your injured leg move forward together, followed by your strong leg.
Caution: Always ensure that someone is present to provide support assistance until you have practiced and become proficient at using your hemi walker.
Walker Three-Point Gait Pattern
Step 1
Align the middle of your feet with the back legs of the walker.
Step 2
Ensure all four legs are in contact with the floor before putting your weight on walker and lifting the hemi walker comfortably in front and to the side of you.
Step 3
Step forward carefully using your weak leg first. Follow with your other leg, placed alongside your weak leg. Repeat steps to move forward.
